Suyoun Yi is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano. Suyoun was born and grew up in Seoul, South Korea. She started piano at 6 but received her first bachelor degree in English literature at KookMin Uni. in Seoul, Korea. She was very interested in Jazz/pop/ contemporary Christian music so she took Jazz piano lessons during her college years. She has been a main keyboardist and a band master for contemporary worship service at several churches since 2001. She started giving classical piano lessons to young students in 2002, and basic jazz lessons to adults in 2006. Her passion for music brought her to Dallas in 2012 and she studied classical piano with Ms. Boriana Savova and Jazz piano with Mr. Brad Williams (former UNT one o’clock lab band pianist) at Richland College in Dallas. Her jazz small group won the best ensemble award, and she won the outstanding soloist award from SHSU(Sam Houston State Uni) Bill Watrous Jazz Festival in 2014. She earned her second bachelor degree in piano pedagogy from TCU where she studied with Mr. Harold Martina and Dr. Ann Gipson and completed her master’s of music in piano pedagogy at TCU in May of 2021.
She is an enthusiastic teacher. Her piano lessons are full of fun and excitement. She utilizes lots of games and visuals for younger and beginner students while reinforcing musicianships such as sight-reading, ear training and chord progressions for advanced and adult students.
